Alterations and additions to this home focused on the entry and living areas along with the façade of the building. The original home was solid masonry and concrete built on a corner block in close proximity to the street.

New features of the home include the cantilevered eave to the entry, which opens up the living/kitchen and dining area and the deck beyond. New windows and doors were installed throughout improving cross ventilation, access to natural light and views. The new skillion roof creates visual interest and breaks up the facade. These design alterations along with the use of contrasting natural materials such as copper, timber and stonework breathe new life into the building.

The modest size of this home enables the occupants to live simply and creates a physical connection to the nearby harbour and adjoining reserve. Simple space planning and the provision of cross ventilation simultaneously emphasize the harbour views while promoting quality of life. This deceptively simple renovation has transformed a well-built 1970s house, giving it a vibrant street presence and ecological sustainability.
